Perfect or prompt?

July 2nd, 2014

This week we'll be taking a look at the first stages of creating a website and the positives and negatives regarding the timing of the build. Is it better to press ahead and launch your website as soon as possible or hold back and get all the small details perfect?

So how long should you expect your website build process to take?

We usually say a month for a fully bespoke site with everything running smoothly. Obviously there are a number of factors that play a part in this, such as the site's complexity, how quickly we receive the needed information to build your site and if multiple design revisions are required.

When is it time to get started and what do you need to have ready?

So you've decided that it's time to look for a website, so when should you get the ball rolling? Whether you're a newly created business or an established one, we'd recommend getting your website started as early as possible.

What can wait?

Some people like to hold back until they have every last detail thought of and ready. But really elements such as content and final images etc. can wait until the end and these things often evolve and change over time anyway. The largest time consumer of a website build is the overall design so giving the maximum time to get this right will mean a better end result. Sometimes you won't know something is perfect until you see it on your web page.

When you hold back, much like anything you can begin to over think everything, which can be detrimental to the process. Sometimes you just have to take the plunge.
So is it better to press ahead or hold back and get everything perfect before you launch into the market? We'd encourage you to get your website started as you know you need one. Obviously you want it to look decent, but a website is something that evolves. Over the years, you will be making changes and improvements. Sometimes these changes will work, sometimes not. By getting it out there you'll be able to begin working on your search engine reputation and potential customers can start finding you.

Everyone is different and everyone has their own preferences. But if you're website is sitting on the build shelf gathering dust, it's really time to get it down give it a polish and get it in the shop window.
