Tips for juggling your social media

There is little room left to debate the importance of social media in today’s marketing strategies. But with so many different platforms out there, how do you cope with the task of managing more than one social media outlet at a time?

Be Selective
With the huge variety of social media platforms you need to be wary of over subscribing. You need to figure out which ones are really worth your attention. There’s no point devoting yourself whole heartily to every platform under the sun as you’ll be in danger of spreading yourself too thinly and not doing a great job either. Do some research and see what options are out there and might work for your business. Think about their audience and if it matches your own? Is your company very visually orientated? Maybe something like Facebook would be better than something more text based like Twitter.

Be Organised
Like everything else, fail to prepare, and you prepare to fail. Try creating a diary solely designated for your social media strategy. Decide ahead of time what you want to achieve from your campaign, and how you’ll go about it. Spending a few hours on this will mean you are set up for the next few months.

Management Tools
There are lots of free tools out there that help to manage your social media. TweetDeck run by Twitter is a great tool, it’ll give you live updates of your feeds and so is brilliant to help you interact more. Although TweetDeck is a great tool it will only work for Twitter and no other social networks.

Hootsuite is a great application to help you juggle your multiple accounts on multiple social networks. What’s great is that up to 5 accounts and it’s absolutely free. You can view your social media feeds at the same time on a single dashboard, making it easier to track conversations and interact with followers. Not only this, but you can schedule future posts to go out and you can plan ahead. This also means that you can schedule your posts to send things out at the best times, so if it’s at 7pm, no need to take work home with you. Just schedule it to go out earlier in the day. It also means if you’re away for a few days you can still have an active social media. The main disadvantage is that you can only have 5 accounts under the free plan which can easily be used up when you consider how many social networks that are around. You can however upgrade for a reasonable fee. There are similar platforms out there such as Buffer and SocialOomph, but personally we find Hootsuite offers the most for the free option.
